The Story
In the soft light along the coastal wetlands of eastern North Carolina, a black bear pauses within a field of autumn goldenrod. Warm color fills the landscape, while the bear’s dark form rises quietly from the meadow, creating a moment that feels both peaceful and quietly powerful.
There is no tension in the scene, only balance. The bear is not separated from the landscape but held within it — surrounded by layered color, soft depth, and the fading warmth of the season.
Golden Meadow reflects the kind of wildlife encounter that often stays with me most: quiet, unforced, and deeply connected to place.

What drew me to this scene was the relationship between the bear and the meadow.
The warm goldenrod, soft light, and deep shadow of the bear created a natural contrast that felt painterly without feeling dramatic. I was interested in the way the animal seemed to emerge from the landscape rather than stand apart from it.
Black bears are often photographed in ways that emphasize power, movement, or tension. Here, I wanted to hold onto something quieter — the stillness of the moment, the warmth of the setting, and the sense that the bear belonged completely to the field around it.
For me, Golden Meadow is about atmosphere, balance, and the quiet presence of wildlife within a landscape at the edge of seasonal change.
