The Story
As the sun slipped behind the desert ridgeline in Joshua Tree National Park, a solitary Joshua tree stood in the last warmth of evening light. The sky softened into layers of gold, lavender, and blue, while the rugged terrain below slowly settled into shadow.
The scene was quiet, but not empty. The tree’s sculptural form rose against the distant mountains like a living monument — shaped by wind, time, and the difficult beauty of the desert.
Evening Stillness reflects the resilience and restraint of the Quiet Earth collection: a moment where harsh conditions and delicate light exist side by side.

What drew me to this scene was the way the Joshua tree held the final light.
The desert around it was beginning to fall into shadow, but the tree remained illuminated for a brief moment against the layered sky and distant mountains. I was interested in that contrast — the ruggedness of the landscape softened by the warmth and color of evening.
Joshua trees have a sculptural quality that feels both fragile and enduring. In this image, I wanted to let that form stand quietly within the larger desert space, without making the scene feel overly dramatic or forced.
For me, Evening Stillness is about resilience, solitude, and the calm that settles over the desert at the end of the day.
