The Story
Across the fading grasses of coastal North Carolina, a northern harrier moves low over the landscape with the quiet precision of a hunter built for open country. Its flight is controlled and effortless, held just above the field as evening light softens the scene around it.
Although the image captures motion, the feeling is one of restraint. The bird appears suspended in the warm tones of the refuge, moving through the space with balance, focus, and silence.
Edge of Silence reflects a quieter form of wildlife action — not dramatic or forceful, but graceful, minimal, and deeply connected to the rhythm of the landscape.

What drew me to this scene was the quietness of the movement.
Northern harriers have a way of hunting that feels almost weightless, moving low over grasses with subtle adjustments and complete control. In this moment, the warm evening light and open space reduced the scene to its simplest elements: bird, grass, motion, and silence.
I was interested in creating an image that held onto that restraint. Rather than emphasizing speed, I wanted the photograph to feel suspended — a brief glimpse of movement slowed down enough to become still.
For me, Edge of Silence is about grace, precision, and the quiet tension of a wild hunter moving through the last light of the day.
