Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge, North Carolina — 2022
Hidden within a sea of blooming goldenrod, this black bear moved slowly through the coastal fields of eastern North Carolina as the season shifted toward cooler days. For only a brief moment, the bear lifted its head above the flowers before disappearing once again into the color and texture of the landscape.
